The Original Music Ministry
Dan Hopkinson received an inexpensive flattop guitar for his twelfth birthday and proceeded to teach himself to play. Within a year or two he added electric bass to his credit; then mandolin and tenor banjo; then fiddle; then five-string banjo; then Hawaiian steel guitar; then pedal steel guitar. In collge he studied Classical guitar for a year, and built and learned to play Appalachian Dulcimer in a three-week Summer mini-term. Since he has added Dobro, mandolin-banjo, autoharp, Blues Harps, and most recently, a six-string banjo.
Dan began his singing career in the Youth Choir of New Brooklyn Methodist Church in Williamstown, New Jersey. As a teenager Dan performed as a founding member of The Tabernacle Teens of Christ Community Tabernacle in Elmer, New Jersey. Concurrently he played electric bass on Hope Free-Will Baptist's weekly Sunday morning life radio broadcast on WDVL-AM in Vineland, New Jersey. In 1974 he became the bass player for The New Regency Quartet of Vineland, New Jersey, a Southern Gospel quartet who performed in concert throughout the Philadelphia area, and opened concerts for The Harbor Lights, The Cathedral Quartet, and the Blue Ridge Quartet. When Dan left New Jersey and moved to Western North Carolina, he founded Sterling ministries and began performing as a solo act.
In the early 90's Dan purchased his first analog four-track audio recording deck and began producing cassette tapes of his music. In 2001 he upgraded to his first digital studio, and a few years later added a video production studio to his computer as well. His wife Debra also began singing with him during those years.
His musical abilites can be heard on his music CD's available in our store on this site or on several of the internet sites such as itunes, Napster, Rhapsody, CDBaby, and others.
